Dr Priya Sen

Acne is produced by overactivity of the oil glands and commonly affects the face, chest and back. Acne usually starts in the teenage years but some adults continue to have acne in their twenties to forties. It is important to treat acne early before the condition results in pigmentation and permanent scarring.

Treatment options include:

- A personalized skin care regimen plus topical creams or gels for active acne, comedones (whiteheads and blackheads) and scars

- Comedone (whiteheads and blackheads) extraction

- Oral medications: Antibiotics, Contraceptive Pills and Isotretinoin (Roaccutane)

- Chemical Peels

- IPL, blue light LED or Fractional CO2 laser treatments for acne scars
